I use actual maps for "macronavigation" to get me to the approximate location. Then I use Google maps to take me the rest of the way. I'm better off if I actually look at the map on the screen and pinpoint my destination. I've occasionally used the spoken directions when I'm driving at night, but that gets me hopelessly lost more often than not.
If I use Google Maps as an assistant, it's great. If I totally rely on it, I'm in trouble.

And if you think Apple does a better job, let me tell you about Amos and his indiscreet relationship with Siri....
