Somehow, this thread reminds me of a book I had as a child called "Wild Animals of the World." It was illustrated with exquisitely shaded pencil drawings that now come to mind as each wondrous name trips off the tongue. There were the

coypu
capybara
onager
okapi
wapati
sun bear
pangolin
przewalski's wild horse (as it was known then; apparently it's only feral)
kinkajou
coati mundi
meerkat
and of course the
echidna and the
platypus

Did anyone else have this book?
