Yes, in days gone by the likes of Lorenz Hart, Cole Porter and others got away with tortuous feminine rhymes, which today would be shunned as too excruciating. Check out Noel Cowards Mad Dogs and Englishmen, where even the male rhymes can be strained:

The toughest Burmese Bandit
Can never understand it
In Rangoon the heat of Noon
Is just what the natives shun
They put their Scotch and Rye down
And lie down in a Jungle town
