The Chinese song is in Our Singing World: Singing Together book as Chinese Evening Song:

CHINESE EVENING SONG
(words:Nancy Byrd Turner, tune: Chinese folk tune)

Temple bells ring soft and clear
Down the twilight hill,
Dusky quiet hill
Where the shadows fill.
Ling Foo, go to sleep, my dear,
Lotus blooms are drifting near;
Night is on the hill;
Temple bells are still

Upon the hillside are berries sweet,
'Mid hazel brush, oaks and birches;
T h e little goats leap with nimble feet,
T h e river through the valley rushes.
The smell of earth and the sigh of trees
And songs of birds float upon the breeze.

(In fact I first found it in the programme notes for the 50th Annual Ann Arbor r May Festival (Ann Arbor 50th May Day - pdf. That gave me the title to look for elsewhere.)

It's on page 141 in the Singing World book, which you can find at archive.org: Singing Together.

Sadly neither the elephant song nor the original request seem to be in the book. I do have 4 or 5 others to look through, but it's bed time here! I'll have a look tomorrow.
