The thing is, both the Pope (in giving the poor parents utterly false hope of a 'cure') and Alfies' Army (in vociferously clamouring for doctors to 'do something' and accusing Alder Hey of being 'murderers') are interfering with his parents' need to somehow accept the situation, and to spend the little boys' last hours/days sitting quietly at his bedside.

When the end comes, all they will remember will be the aggravation, the Press, the threats to staff, and they will have persuaded themselves that 'if only' they'd been allowed to take the child abroad he'd have been cured.

Agree with Iains that these disruptive demonstrations near a hospital should be addressed vigorously by the Police. Disturbing the Peace etc. surely?
