I'm not certain, but I think Fingal was Irish, despite Fingal's cave being in the Western Isles. By the way, while in my eyes Stan Roger's is nothing short of a God himself, I think he may have been mistaken in referring to these islands as "The Isles of the Blest" - I've never heard them called that not even by those who live there. However, why spoil a good song and it's equally good introduction by a ha'porth of pedantry.... Mo
