Thread Name: Folklore: Names of Farms
Subject: RE: Folklore: Names of Farms
In West Scotland, many far names originate from the Gaelic often containing the rateable value of the ground on which the farm stands. Examples from round where I live Lephin(more), Lephin(chaple), Feorline, some have been Anglicised.... Penny(more). Mhor, more, indicates a large farm... Beag, would indicate a small farm. On the East coast the farm "touns" Like "Sleepytoun"and "Drumdelgie" became famous through the ballads of the "Plooman Poets"
