because this new rescue dog,
Acme reports, is heartworm-positive.
Saintly human being that she is, she will
administer the heartworm cure with the help
of her veterinarian.

I've never had first-hand experience with heartworm treatment.
I hear third- or fourth-hand that the treatment
is extremely dangerous,
and that it takes, not days, but weeks.
