Of course, Keith. Perhaps it would have been appropriate.

But perhaps not enough people were aware/cared/whatever?

"They MOSTLY [my emphasis] went without protest" - but there were protests. I trust you went. I know people who did because they were bothered.

But there must be something about Trump that bothers people more - for right or for wrong. Perhaps his arrogance and high media profile asks for a response? Perhaps karma?

For right or wrong, he divides in a very straightforward and obvious way. And makes it very black and white. Asks the question with brutal honesty - whose side are you on? Whereas the other two are a little more subtle. They also divide and influence but without the big 'I am' thing.

Strength appeals to people. People like 'winners'. People like certainty. Suddenly everyone is English because the football is going well - like Andy Murray being a great englishman when he's winning Wimbledon.

And it's a fantastically clever publicity stunt that cost nothing.

People will try and copy it. But like many things, the first time an idea is used is the greatest however many times it gets copied.

As a total aside, my favourite thing today was Farage today in his LBC thing about 'englishness' and concepts of 'englishness' quoting Orwell. Who was an Indian if I remember. Like Ted Dexter and Cliff Richard.
