Herreshoff trivia: The Herreshoff family fortune was made by Nathanael's father who patented the first practical multiple hearth furnace for refining copper ore (the chalcopyrite roaster.) Couldn't have electrified the American grid without him and Phelps-Dodge.

Nathanael's son “L. Francis” was also a famous naval architect. His Sensible Cruising Designs was pretty much required reading for Yank wooden boat builders.

Bellamena's state-of-the-art 5-cylinder, quad expansion steam engine was designed by Nathanael's brother and business partner… he went by “John B.” ;)
