Thread Name: BS: Thank goodness for Air Conditioning!!
Subject: RE: BS: Thank goodness for Air Conditioning!!
When I was in W Africa, and staying in a hotel (for example in Labadi Beach hotel in Accra, Ghana) I turned off the air con in my room, and never used it, even though the humidity was very high (rainy season) a bit like a sauna.

The reason was that one becomes too accustomed to the coolness, and the heat outside hits one like a blast. I found it better to suffer for a day or two, then my body began to acclimatise itself, and I got used to the temperature.

In Senegal, the 'campement' had no electricity at all, so no air con. But again, after a time, I got used to the heat (dry heat this time!)

Many years ago my poor husband waited five hours inside the British Embassy in Accra for his name to be called to collect his Visa for UK. The air con was fierce and it was like sitting in a fridge. He was shaking with cold (only had on his traditional thin cotton costume) and nearly passed out!
