Ooooh Steve! What an image that conjures up!!! hee hee!

I've always slept well in Africa. I somehow feel I'm 'home' - I must have African genes or something.
I've never used an electric fan though. I like complete silence during the night and wouldn't like the humming noise.

I once stayed at a 'pension' in Dakar, Senegal. The two ladies who ran it made a great show of plugging in a huge fan, and I politely said I didn't want or need it, the 'moustiquaire' was sufficient.

They were amazed and said that surely a Toubabe (white person) would need a fan? (There were huge cockroaches in the shower too, but I've never minded those)
I reckon the ladies were rather disappointed, and were expecting a spoiled princess from the UK, instead of a rough-and-ready unrefined traveller like me!
