Definition:Banjophyte (n.): a tiny micro-organism that lodges between the string and fret of the ordinary 5-stringed banjo and prevents notes from being played cleanly. Although too small to see, they have extraordinarily hard carapace, and the only known technique for removing them is to repeatedly strike the desired note over and over again (preferably in a sound-proof practice chamber) until the 'phyte is crushed to powder and the note can be played cleanly repeatedly.
