The proceedings were hearings, it wasn't a trial, but another feature of Kavanaugh's testimony is that he allegedly lied to congress. Aspects of his testimony are in dispute, including the charge of sexual assault, but also his drinking and how he glossed over or mis-represented the extent of it. There has been only one impeachment in the Supreme Court in US history and it didn't pass, but others have stepped down from office or excused themselves from consideration.
