Who said Peterborough is in Cambridgeshire . . Not any more it isn't; it's a Unitary Authority all on its own (but still operates jointly with Cambridgeshire on a number of things . . )As I recall (but others certainly disagree with this interpretation) the Boundary Commission investigated Unitary Status for Huntingdon, Peterborough and Cambridge (city). First time round they rejected all three . . Huntingdon wasn't happy, and at that time their MP (one John Major) had a degree of influence. So all three were re-examined, and Peterborough (alone) was given (had forced upon it!) Unitary status . . without any strong desire for it. (In fact of the three proposals the one for Cambridge made most sense, but that's yet another story . .)
