Thread Name: Review: David Attenborough field recordings
Subject: RE: Review: David Attenborough field recordings
I must admit that I am shamefully ignorant about Folk Music outside these Islands of ours. Bert Lloyds writing and documentaries helped. Ewan McColl's comparisons on the first programme of the Song Carriers fired my interest, I did buy (and lend out God forgive me) Bert's Topic recordings made in Yugoslavia (that gets confusing nowadays. I assume Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, that's what you get for lending them!)
The truth of the matter is it is easier to stay in the British comfort zone than join the world connection that becomes more and more apparent everyday I look at folk Song tunes in say 'Hammond' and find Irish, Scottish then Eastern European tune families. I think you need to have a mind with a world view that is more than a little wider than mine to absorb all that info. It does not mean I'm not interested but if somebody (Mike??) were to post an informed review of Attenborough's recordings here on Mudcat, it would be much appreciated.
