Sounds like the Proms in the Albert Hall. The audience there are enthusiastic and never like to let the soloists go (or were 50 yrs ago - don't suppose they've changed).
Seems very strange now when I go to concerts in Cheshire, some polite applause, the conductor and soloists come back, bow, a little more applause which has stopped before they even get out again.
