Isn't Jeremy Kyle known as 'Jez'?
I've had more than one pupil pronounce Socrates as 'So-Crates'.

That pronunciation is used in the film "Bill and Ted's excellent adventure" which might be where they get it from.
It also featured "that short dead dude" (Napoleon) and "Miss Of-Arc" (Joan)
