I grew an avocado tree from seed. It is now as tall as a two storey house. So far, we have only had a couple of seasons of fruiting and then the maximum yield was about 10, but I still think it's a minor miracle to get such a lovely big tree from a small seed the size of a walnut. I didn't do my homework. I just hoped that the variety would grow and produce fruit in our temperate climate. So far, so good.

Maybe, lefthanded guitar, you think of the avocado the same way that Kipling allegedly did, referring to them as alligator pears and referencing a quote from one of his stories, "the great green greasy Limpopo "
