Well I've grown Ailsa Craig and I can't get them to taste of anything. If I really must have full-size toms I'd go for Shirley, but for years now I've grown just Sungold, a lovely cherry tom that has the irritating tendency to split later in the season (which is why shops don't sell them). But that's its only drawback - Sungold is resistant to all those wilt and leaf mould diseases that affect greenhouse tomatoes, so I never have to change my greenhouse soil or grow them in pots or bags, and the flavour is superlative. I don't care at all for outdoor cucumbers. I grow female-only F1 varieties of mini-cucumbers. They knock the shop ones into a cocked hat.
