The ancient theory of the elements and humours explains this. The point of a fan is counteract an excess of choler (heat and dryness) in the room, and the antithetical humour is the cold and damp one, black bile, the humour of melancholy. Clearly some of it has got stuck inside, and the dark slime your fan is leaking is concentrated depression.
