"Ort" is first recorded in Wiltshire near the beginning of the 14th century and has long been used in other parts of Britain.

The first time I heard it was in college in the U.S. The context was that Henry VIII was said to have throw the orts of his meals over his shoulder when he was done.

True or not, the word used was "orts."
