Thread Name: bowline vs. bow line in canal songs
Subject: RE: bowline vs. bow line in canal songs
Nooses, running bowlines &c – The diameter of a properly tied bowline's "eye" will remain fixed. The drawn noose is the “running” part added by passing the standing end through the finished eye.

Unless that eye is unusually small, and/or the drunken sailor caught about the thigh, the running bowline will pass straight through its own eye and capsize itself into a type of hitch - tête d'alouette - lark's head, cow, girth, ad nauseum.

The running noose part will be gone but the diameter of the bowline's eye unchanged.
