Actually, there was one intrusive advert I did welcome. A particularly vile post in one of the political threads got bisected by a cartoon-y drawing of a giant bladder and urethra, and the words, in large caps: WEAK URINE? Brilliant.

Hey... does Apple do any selective ad-blockers, so you can just have them on stuff you don't like?
