Thread Name: Ewan MacColl - any first-hand anecdotes?
Subject: RE: Ewan MacColl - any first-hand anecdotes?
“Are you suggesting that everybody knows Ewan as Jimmy Miller and and his wishes to chnage his mane (for very real and important reasons) should be ignored”

No. As you chose to point out that he abandoned the name Miller “in the forties”, the official records show that he was using the name at least until 1949.

I have no idea who you are Jim, neither do I care, but it strikes me that every time somebody mentions the name MacColl on this forum you pop up in order to try and prove that you know better. One day, you might realise that you don’t have the monopoly on all things MacColl and others may have either knowlege or opinions which are equally valid.

I too met him, although rather late in his life. We discovered that we both had a liking for the place he was living in the 1930s and was delighted to be invited on stage, by Peggy, to accompany her on a song she hadn’t intended to sing but liked the sound of whilst we jammed backstage during the interval. No doubt you will choose to dispute this!

I could ask if anyone knows who the other two (of the 6 residents) were in the Miller household back in 1939 but no doubt I will receive another tirade of abuse.
