Thread Name: BS: let's have thanksgiving in october
Subject: RE: BS: let's have thanksgiving in october
i think it should be done so it does not conflict with halloween, which is a huge event for the kids..but it could be close. i think best idea, which i think overlaps with canadian thanksgiving, is our usual columbus day, which is a holiday for some but not all..could be made a holiday for all, plus the friday before..think columbus day falls on a monday..it is not a big day for those not of italian heritage I think..could be wrong. it is quite controversial to celebrate it and moves are afoot to tie it into indigenous people day..which i think would tie in with thanksgiving..not to everyone's satisfaction of course. there are issues with farmers still harvesting that time of year...they probably could not travel but people could travel to them. my issue is mostly travel safety. look at what went on a couple of days ago. people spending 17 hours in their cars on a frozen highway. of course, someone dumber than dumb allowed them to proceed without checking for chains, which were required..then they slid around and tow trucks could not get to them. if it says chains required, have a person or a robot or a drone check for chains and turn them back. Plus it would be so pretty to drive in earlier fall..leaf watchers etc..as opposed to howling blizzards and bomb cyclones. and people could decide in their families they still want to have the late thanksgiving and complain about people putting up lights too early etc.
