I think so. After all, the Magi weren't just three guys on camels. They were, essentially, a diplomatic mission, bringing goodwill gifts for the new-born Messiah. So they'd need a full contingent of supporting staff with them, and possibly a military escort. Which is where your Drummer Boy comes in.
