Thread Name: Lyr Add: Root, Hog, or Die: versions
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Root, Hog, or Die; versions
Sorry - somehow the first verse got left off

1 `Twas on the twenty-fourth of March we got under way,
Bound to the Western Bank on a bright and sunny day:
The wind was off the land and clear was the sky;
That night we shot in Portland Dock - Root, hog, or die.
----------

I also found a version in the Flanders collection from New Hampshire which I have not transcribed except for the first verse

3151 ROOT HOG OR DIE

When the Yankees came to Plymouth Rock to that forest dense and wild
They were a brave and hearty lot from grandsire down to child
For the leader when they landed there with a twinkle in his eye
Said keep your muskets cracked? my lads for it's root hog or die
