I have only recently stumbled upon this talented singer/songwriter. Given that I have been collecting American folk and country records for decades, I am surprised that I have not come across her before this. Better late than never - what a gem! I have managed to secure 3 of her albums here in Oz.

I am particularly impressed by her song, 'The dozens'. It is perhaps of some topical relevance with the recent death of John Lewis and the 'black lives matter' movement. She dedicated ’The Dozens’ to Larry Devine, the author of ‘Black Culture and Black Consciousness’. Levine wrote about ’the dozens’, an urban verbal game where people trade insults about each other’s mothers. The person who gets visibly angry first loses the game. Levine argued that people played the game to steel themselves against the brutality of the world. Evidently, Caroline had a personal friendship with Devine.
