Subject: RE: in print folk magazines still around

Similarly to last two posts the 'Folk Roundabout' Editor is determined that the next issue is the last unless volunteers step up. Equally we are none of us as young as we were.

That was the only way that I could retire after 10 years at the helm of Folk London. The new editor is continuing to publish but without any clubs open sales are by sub, mail order, or more recently, from one of the three shops that stock the magazine.

Putting the magaiznes in front of the public is the big problem for all small magazines. Circulation is too low and the margins too tight to use a distrubutor and a lot of outlets won't deal direct. Pricing is the next problem, too low and you can't give the retailer a decent cut, too high and people won't buy.

Selling in the outside world has other problems, at least in the folk scene, because it is a fairly close community, people do tend to pay their bills.
