For "Big Rock Candy Mountain" and its history see Hal Ramel's 'Nowhere in America, and Other Comic Utopias'. Compare with the 17th century "An Invitation to Lubberland" in the Scarce Songs 1 file on my website. That seems to be where the rock candy mountain first apeared.
