Hi Peter; I'd say the "Carolan" tune and the folk tune are recognisably similar though of course the World of Morris has adapted it to its own needs as Snuffy's post demonstrates!

The YouTube videos of Mrs Mcdermott certainly bear a strong resemblance to the tune any Morris dancer or musician would recognise.
