Some notes:
The Courte Paille one reminds me of Il était un petit navire, where thay also draw lots to see whom to eat.

In regular French, métis was just the word for mixed-race, akin to [but with no insulting overtones] mulatto. Didn't matter what races were in the mix.

And I noticed several of the posted songs repeat lines, like Verse 1 is lines 1 and 2, verse 2 is lines 2 and 3, verse 3=3&4, and so on. Is that a particularly francophone thing? It allows for short versions [where Verse 2 skips straight to lines 3 and 4] and long versions where you do the repeat each time. A la claire fontaine, En passant par la Lorraine, and others work like that. But is it a French-language thing, particularly?
