I have some neighbours in the village with a connection to Guyana who might be interested in this. One of the subjects of the Empire who came to Scotland was a black Guyanan aircraft repairman: he worked as an instructor for the RAF at bases around the Lothians. He got on well enough with the locals that he managed to get two women from neighbouring villages pregnant simultaneously. He married one of them, and the result that there has been an ever-ramifying dynasty of his descendants in Midlothian, getting paler with each generation. One of his sons was our plumber until he retired and a daughter is a colourful character who has been a regular on the Edinburgh folk scene.
