It used to be the new president didn't assume office until March of the following year. It was moved forward a long time ago, but this may be the election that has it moving even closer to the date of the election being certified. There is a lot of canvasing left to do, so the next day wouldn't work here (since the whole nation and not just a house of parliament makes this vote).
