The closest I have come is a modern ballet based on historical research and music by some light-hearted American composer whose name escapes me now. I believe the show came from the New York City ballet.

This was years ago, but I have two vivid memories. One is that a stock item for minstrel shows was making parodies of La Sylphide. We got to see that. Another is the sight of a black male ballet dancer ending the performance with a joyous display of high kicks while the entire audience cheered and clapped along. There was so much love in the place that tears are coming to my eyes as I recall it.
