Thread Name: songs for new years day singing?
Subject: RE: songs for new years day singing?
Henryp mentioned, back in 2012, one of Alison Burns' songs: we learned another of her settings at one of her December workshops a few years back: it's from a poem by William Soutar (1870-1943)and she put the music to it, in 4-part harmony. It may seem quite short, but with the musical arrangement, it is sung several times over, bringing in different parts at different stages. The basses have the easiest (dumbest?) part, as all they do is sing long "dum"s!

OPEN THE DOOR FOR THE AULD YEAR
Open the door for the auld year,
It is the pairtin' time,
Open the door for the new year,
And let the bairn win hame.
Bundle your winter joy and grief
On the back of the year that's dune,
Open your hert for the new life
And let the bairn come in.
