It is in the nature of languages to change, though I agree that lesser used languages can be over-influenced by the dominant languages so sometimes we should make a point of keeping to Gaelic syntax and vocabulary when there is a tendency to import English-isms. In any language people will have specialised terms according to their needs. If people don't cut peat, they are likely to forget detailed terms about it. People who have horses are likely to know names for parts of the harness and types of bits and so on, which other people are much less likely to know. So that type of vocabulary loss has as much to do with changed lifestyles as with language shift. Old lyrics and stories do help conserve these words and concepts.
