Thread Name: Ode to Joy - other lyrics
Subject: ADD Version: Ode to Joy (words from Schiller)
Hi, Susan. Hope life is treating you well. I've missed you.

I did find this version in Sing Together, one of the US Girl Scout songbooks (Third Edition, 1973, page 54 - also in the 1936 and 1949 editions)

ODE TO JOY

Hail thee, Joy! All hail, divinest,
Daughter of Elysium!
We approach thy light so cheering,
To thy altar now we come.
Thou hast pow'r to bind together
What the world would rend apart,
And where-e'er thy light wings flutter,
Love and peace are in the heart.

Joy, 'tis Joy from heav'n descended
Turns unseen the wheel of live,
Joy by love and hope attended,
Leading hearts from worldly strife,
Draws the stream from hidden sources,
Stirs the seed in earth confined,
Rolls the stars along their courses,
Moves the heart of all mankind.

from Songs for Informal Singing, National Recreation and Park Association

I didn't find "Ode to Joy" in any of our school songbook indexes. I'm sure there are several versions in school songbooks, but not with that title.
