As for Rizzio, he is indeed the poor lover of Mary Queen of Scots who was done in somewhat brutally by her husband Darnley (who died mysteriously himself). He was a musician, and probably made up tunes and songs; but we have no way now of identifying any for certain. What "tradition" there is is probably publisher's puff to sell books, or at the best editorial wishful thinking.
