And in answer to DesertRat from his original 1999 post: here are the lyrics.   Are they the 'original' lyrics? Who knows.   But Noel Harrison used them in 1968 and they're very similar to the one The Clancy Brothers used in 1972.

SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME by Irving King aka Jimmy Campbell and Reg Connelly (1925)

as recorded by Noel Harrison,1968; similar version by the Clancy Brothers (1972)

I have watched the day fade and melt away ten thousand times or more
And I have drawn ten thousand conclusions in the sand along the shore.
Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little taste about an hour ago and its gone right to my head
No matter where I roam, over land or sea or foam
You will always hear me singing this song, show me the way to go home.

I've waited in the sun and listened to everyone of the questions that you've posed
And found the answers in the petals of the rose.
No matter where I roam over land or sea or foam
You will always hear me singing this song, Show me the way to go home.

I've watched you come & go And seen enough to know that there's no more to see.
And I have loved a girl and known that she loved me.
No matter where I roam over land or sea or foam,
You will always hear me singing this song,    Show me the way to go home.
