Currently, the A66 is a little problematic at weekends. West of Keswick, around Cockermouth, it's closed for repairs, so check before travelling.

The goods vehicle diversion to get from Keswick to Cockermouth (about 13 miles) takes you via Penrith and Carlisle, almost 65 miles.
