Molly Pitcher (1754-1832) was born on October 13,1754 near Trenton, New Jersey (as Mary Ludwig). She was a water carrier at the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 during the American Revolution. After her husband, artilleryman John Hays, collapsed, she took his place at his place at the cannon.
