for us, in the 1940s, tripe was a regular a regular meal, it was served with a white onion sauce ,which disguised its lack of taste and its texture:
but then of course there was eels
as a childI couldn't bring myself to eat eel, after mother described them wriggling on the fishmonger's slab while he cut them into short moving pieces,and have never tried it since.
