Mike James Phimister here. I remember enjoying Dean's shows at the Poison Apple in Detroit. That was in the 1960's when he was known as Bill Rutledge, then later as Dean. He was always welcoming to new singers and pickers, myself being one. In fact, he gave me a chance to do a guest set. But that's another story. He brought much joy to folks with his music and wit during a time that was rife with stress and turmoil. He will be missed.
