See the August thread for a collection of songs about the Siege of Derry, 1689, part of a resistance against King James. Although the siege is annually commemorated on August 14, one of the most celebrated events (referenced in most songs) took place on December 7, 1688, when a group of apprentices shut the town gates against Jacobite forces.
