Thread Name: BS: Wheel of Time TV series
Subject: RE: BS: Wheel of Time TV series
Poor Robert Jordan ... the author, who became terminally ill while working to finish the series of books,
on which this series is based.
A young fantasy-genre author named Brandon Sanderson had to do the finishing touches on the last book in the series.
I remember trying to wrap my head around that last book.
It's a doorstop, first of all, really thick, huge book.
There is one chapter -- I could name the chapter, but I won't --
that goes ON, and ON, and ONNNN ...

And some of the subplots got so convoluted, especially the ones
involving prophecies and probably alternative futures,
that I had to just forget about them and stick to the main plot.

Also, when a series like this is written and published,
and an eschatological possible-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it showdown is vital to the plot, what that means is :
a heck of an awful lot of people die.
Of course some of them, it's like, YES! That one had it coming!
But then there are all the others, and the bodies pile up,
and there is a huge remaining cast of characters, grieving the losses.

Then there were characters who survived but were the worse for wear.
One that sticks in my mind was a warrior of great prowess --
but in a one-on-one fight with deadly magic and all,
this character's feet were permanently maimed.
They'll be lucky if they can even walk, never mind fight.

Yes, that series kept me awake at night for a while . . .
