Thread Name: Any January Songs?
Subject: RE: The DT MacColl song listing from Geoff Lawes
A GREAT MANY of the songs Geoff Lawes attributes to Ewan MacColl were older songs that MacColl recorded(and/or published in a songbook) and didn't compose: Farewell to Tarwathie, The Sweet Kumadie, Mary Hamilton, Our Goodman, Lambkin, Will Ye Go to Sheriffmuir, An Old Man Came Over the Lea, Cruising Round Yarmouth, Wee German Lairdie, Wae's Me for Prince Chairlie, Trooper and the Maid, The Trooper Cut Down in his Prime, The Newcombe Gauger, The Gairdner Child, The Earl of Errol ... the list goes on

The Folksingers' Ball is a modern parody which mentions MacColl and a great many other singers, but which MacColl neither recorded nor wrote.

Springhill Mine Disaster is by Peggy Seeger, MacColl's wife who both composed songs are her own and together with Ewan.

Many other songs on the list were MacColl compositions, including Freeborn Man of the Travelling People, Joy of Living, Go Down You Murderers (The Ballad of Tim Evans), Sweet Thames Flow Softly .
