Thread Name: Where have all the folkies gone?
Subject: RE: Where have all the folkies gone?
Lol.

Last week I attended my local session in a rural village. We had attendees from their teens to their seventies, who played folk music from the UK, Eastern Europe, and the US. We even played a number by Smetana.

I guess people go where they're welcomed and their contributions are valued.

Although parents with school-age children have always been under-represented in attendance at music clubs compared to, for example, folk festivals ime.

Perhaps, Sol, you should ask yourself what you can do to make your "folk clubs" more attractive to younger participants. Maybe not yelling "Judas!" at fans of folk electronica and fusion roots music would be a good start. After all, Eliza Carthy's album Red Rice, for example, was nominated for A Mercury Music Prize in 1998 so folkies have had over twenty years to get used to the idea.
