Thread Name: Where have all the folkies gone?
Subject: RE: Where have all the folkies gone?
I'm in London and there are lot of young people interested in folk music, as it happens. I can think of several folk clubs in south London alone that have a healthy numbers of 20 and 30somethings.

But I take a more philosophical frame of mind regarding youth and folk music: I didn't personally get into folk music until I was 30, having listened to pretty much every other genre of music first.

If you're a teenager there are more exciting musics to be into. I think it's OK if kids aren't into folk music - pop, hip-hop, rock, indie are all better soundtracks for teenage life today frankly.

But I think folk clubs have another few good decades left. After that, who cares? It's not hugely important in the grand scheme of things.
